Dark Tower question

Hello all,

I've just started The Gunslinger, my first King book, and am enjoying it
very much so far. I've been reading that King links the Dark Tower series
with his other books; my question is whether I would be able to understand
and appreciate the Dark Tower without having read any of King's other books.

I have read the first two books of the Gunslinger series and many other SK
books. I think you will be able to understand and apreciate them as stand
alones. Other great SK books include The Stand(my favorite), The Girl Who
Loved Tom Gordon, and The Bachman Books.
